Do I have to use Check Out or Purchase?

I am looking for a simple solution for customer’s websites that want to display products and services but DO NOT want to provide the ability to put in a shopping cart, check out or buy online.

Shopping cart/e-commerce systems have all the basic structure I need; items, categories, descriptions, prices, simple product catalog, etc, however, most do not allow you to turn off the shopping cart/check out functions.

Without doing an extensive amount of research can anyone tell me if zen cart will provide what I am looking for?

You can run the store as a gallery without checkout - there's a setting on Configuration->My Store.

I would agree that there are a lot of benefits that can be gained by allowing/offering all modes to be available. ZC offers that and with it being open source, anything desired to be done can be programmed/reprogrammed...
