Default Customer details - back to the basis

    Hi
After all this years, and I'm still confused on what is mandatory or not.
But my main question here is on telephone.

In configuration -> customer details, there are some fields that can be set to true or false. Ok !
telephone is not one of them.
In the registration form, a "*" is there as mandatory.

But in configuration-> minimum values if I set it to 0 , I can register without entering the telephone.
But in the <input> field, as a required....

So, is it mandatory or not ?

This is the ABC level, but .... I'm confused.

Historically there have been a few of those fields that "appear" mandatory like you indicated, but there is nothing preventing the customer from moving on without entering data. I thought there were some also that could require information but it would not appear next to the field.

Back when I started using ZC and reviewing these things I think someone explained to me that it was the first lesson in open source and a great way to get to know how to use the tools and understand the code. :)

I do believe you're pass the "learning" stage to some extent, but if nothing else don't ever forget that you can pretty much make it do what you want. I thought though that some if not all of those got corrected in ZC 1.5.5. Generally speaking though I'm thinking that there really have been good/other reasons no one had gone and finished off all of the options. Between the time it takes, the debates about what should be/not be there, etc... either one modifies it as desired or they find some other solution. :)

In Admin > Configuration > Customer Details you find this:

    Telephone Number
Display telephone number field during account creation and with account information

Also wondering if this mod still is relevant?

Prior to v155, the "*" was there based on the default text in the english.php language for your site. If you didn't change that IN ADDITION TO changing the admin settings, then the "*" would still show up.
As of v155, it honours the admin settings to determine whether to show the "*" or not (provided you're using a template built for v155).

    Thanks all.

I've realize that one could actually "remove"....or disable a lot of fields in the registration process. And until now I thought they were necessary.
After looking at the files, I end up changing the Fax field to be used as a VAT ( I think this is the name in english ) for the customer.
And with those notifiers, it's now displayed in the admin side....witch is ok, but I still have to display it in the email order, that it's more useful and quick to process the order, but I still haven't look to nothing concerning emails code.

    ok
    Thanks
