I keep having website companies contact me saying that my ZenCart website (www.goldnuggetsales.com) is not mobile friendly. So how do I make it mobile friendly? Any information and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Two ways typically suggested in the forum, either install a responsive template (many available in the downloads section) or incorporate the responsive template framework (sorry I know the name is wrong but it is one of the options to download in the responsive templates section.)

Note that Zen Cart v1.5.5 has a Responsive Template built-in. So you could upgrade to v155 and then customize the responsive_classic to suit your needs.

Sorry for my ignorance, but does that mean I would have to change my template from what I am using now? If I use my current template would I have to change it to HTML5 to be mobile friendly? Sorry if that's a stupid question, but I am learning.
Your template WILL require changes, no matter which approach you take.
There are lots of options:
- apply some DIY ("do it yourself") template package components to hopefully preserve much of your current template
- install an existing template and customize it
- upgrade to v155 and use its responsive template, customizing it to your liking
There are many pros and cons with each approach. I recommend using v155 and customizing to your needs, mainly because it gives you the latest version with all the known bugfixes.
