I'm testing my new installation with actual orders, and suddenly I was no longer seeing USPS rates in the Shipping Estimator. I changed the error setting so it would display errors on the screen, and what had happened was that I'd entered an invalid zip code. USPS is returning 'The Destination ZIP Code you have entered is invalid.'
The problem here is that if a customer enters an invalid zip code, they're never going to see that message. They're just going to think that USPS shipping isn't available for some reason. Is there any reason that phrase couldn't be looked for and captured, and used to trigger an error message alerting the customer? The USPS isn't much help with this--their error message repeats the error text as many times as you have shipping methods enabled. But it only needs to be found once. I can eventually do this, and if no one has already done something with it, I eventually will. But it would be nice to have it working right now.
