Product not showing sold out when it is--Help!

My new website rollout coincided with a new product from one of my suppliers, and I've already sold all that I was promised (and don't even have yet!). The quantity field is at zero, but the system is still accepting orders. I tried changing it to Out of Stock, but then it disappeared altogether. I want people to be able to see the product, just not to be able to order it until I know more is on the way. What's going on here?

Never mine--I found it. I was panicking. I've got half again as many items sold as I'm going to have to deliver.

Admin > Configuration > Stock > Allow Checkout , set to 'false'

Yes, thanks, I had already found that and posted to say so. It's one of those things I assumed would be set to false by default, so I had never even looked for a setting for it. The other shopping cart packages that I've used didn't even allow that to be changed. The only way to keep a product from showing Sold Out, if you wanted to keep selling it anyway, was to manually change the product inventory. I wish it was possible to do this on a product by product basis here, rather than a single setting for the whole store.

It's open source, can make it have that option. Just requires another field or table to track the ones to which it applies and an appropriate logic check in *all* the right places. :)

Gets into custom coding to allow your store to work the way you want it to work. Perhaps if enough people put forth the request then it could become a standard option otherwise a plugin. Could always post as a wish list item or as something to be developed.
