Help With Shipping Options

I am trying to set this up for a friend and would like some assistance.

I want to set them up 2 shipping methods, FREE and COURIER. They want to offer free shipping on all orders but also want to offer a next day delivery which will obviously be at fee.

Ive tried setting shipping to free and used the flat rate option as courier but unless I set the product to always free shipping the only option I see during checkout is flat rate ??

Ive looked at the Royal Mail plugin but its way too much for what we want ..

Any advice welcomed :)
