help question Why is my admin USPS settings page line-wrapping oddly?

Have you customized the USPS shipping.php module?

I've always found the page to be so poorly laid out,
but only recently thought about coming up with a quick
mod to it to have it display nicer and more clearly,
    without word wrap.

What'd you do and how did you do it?

There is no "shipping.php" for USPS.
There's a master "shipping.php" which drives all the business logic for preparing shipping quotes, but does no visual output.

Perhaps you can be more specific about what exactly you're wanting to change the display of.

Is it that you don't like the table that contains shipping quotes: "service name in left column, then price in right column" ?

    Argh, not

    shipping.php
    but

    usps.php.

    usps.php looks like this:

Name:	core-normal-top-30.png
Views:	69
Size:	46.5 KB
ID:	16546

and its edit mode displays options like this:

Name:	core-normal-bottom-30.png
Views:	50
Size:	31.8 KB
ID:	16547

I'd like to adjust the column widths to something like this:

Name:	core-adj-top-30.jpg
Views:	83
Size:	51.1 KB
ID:	16548

which shows the options in a more orderly list:

Name:	core-adj-bottom-30.png
Views:	76
Size:	40.4 KB
ID:	16549

IMHO, there's something wrong with the css in the code,
because getting the left-hand column in my screen shot
to display the way I wanted, I had to set its column width
    to 1%, and that's not a 1% width--it's a 50% width.

That's actually /admin/modules.php, which is displaying settings for the module you selected.

The right-hand "sidebar" which displays all the configurable settings is a column of a big table (one on the left lists all the available modules; the one on the right is the sidebar which you're complaining about).

... then... there's an admin setting I've changed that's made usps.com appear that way.

I want to adjust it, but I don't want to gum up any other pages.

    Admin
    Configuration > Layout

has a lot of options, but I look at it and get overwhelmed--my mind can't wrap around what touches only the display of the usps.php edit page and would leave everything else alone.

I'm afraid to dabble, because I don't want to mess up what IS working.

Probably not the first time you've heard that. :-)
