Checkout total not computing correctly

When customers are purchasing a product, the total price upon checkout is not added correctly.

Example: Product price 259.00
Free shipping
Taxes: 15.54
Total: 292.67 (Not correct) Should be 274.54

This is happening on all products. Total is coming up 18-20 dollars too much. I bought the "zen cart" book to try to find a solution, but unsuccessful. Any thoughts?

from what i can decipher, you ALWAYS charge 6% tax; does not matter to where you ship. (i did not look at international....)

i initially thought the problem was with the shipping, but now i am 99.95565% convinced the problem is with ot_tax (or whatever tax module you have installed) or ot_total.

no matter what you put in the shopping cart, the total will always have an additional 7% of the product total; ie your order_total is product total * 1.13. so you have a 6% total added for the tax, and a 7% phantom total added from something else.

look at your initial example:

259 * 1.13 = 292.67

i would look at the tax module that you have installed as well as examine the ot_total module. to me it has nothing to do with the shipping module unless that is based on a 7% of the product total.

kind of a tricky thing to figure out.
