Default Quick advice on upgrading to 155a

I was having some major problems with my website and decided to just upgrade to 1.55a. The upgrade went fine but the problems were still not resolved. So I just wiped the directory clear and reinstalled 1.55a. Now I am getting a 'you are seeing this page for one or more reasons'. I get to the second page where it is asking about the database... I want to use my existing database and I believe this setup is going to create a new database. I don't understand php databases and want to make sure I do this right. Any advice is appreciated....

IMPORTANT: Running zc_install and filling in the Database Details screen will WIPE OUT whatever is in the database you specify there.

Do you have a backup of all your PHP files (the "directory you wiped clear") from before you wiped it?

Wiping out the entire site is not usually the best solution ... since most problems are isolated to just a couple files, and usually files related to plugins that weren't compatible.

Yes, I was pretty sure it would wipe out everything so I re-copied all of the 5.5a files back to my server. Then I did something that may not be good... copied the configure.php files from my old version and now it recognizes the database. I think my main concern is how much those files have changed since 5.15 to the current one .....

Yes, I knew it would wipe everything out so here's what I did... uploaded all of the 5.5a files. Still got the error and then uploaded the configure.php files from my last version 5.1 Sure enough it recognized the database but I'm a little concerned that the 5.5a configure.php files are significantly different than my old version ?

The v1.5.5 configure.php files are much leaner than previous ones, but when you run zc_install to upgrade the database it will also update your configure.php files to the new format.
But, the upgrade won't fix the broken paths that would be in the old files (ie: broken because the paths would be different on the new server than on the old server)
