Default copy customer related database tables from 1.5.1

I've looked through documentation but would appreciate another view - I am moving a site to a new domain and then doing a subsequent upgrade from 1.5.1 to 1.5.5a. Is it possible to do a clean copy of database tables from 1.5.1 into 1.5.5a? I have a huge number of customers and orders and this would I hope be the last step before completing the move.

By copy, I mean using phpMyadmin.

In fact, you should be doing a complete copy of everything, and NOT just customers/orders.

    Ref: http://www.zen-cart.com/entry.php?3-...d-of-upgrading

The BRIEF (incomplete) version of the article linked above is:
    - set up new site on new server
    - import a complete copy of the data, and run zc_install to bring the db structure up to date
    - do all upgrade tests including customizations and plugins etc, taking detailed notes so you can re-do them all again in a couple minutes after the final re-import of data
    - when ready to go live, import a complete database copy afresh, and then re-apply all the database-related customizations and all admin settings and plugin install setups.(With your checklist this will go very fast)

.. .but read and follow the entire article, not just these bullet points.

Ah. Thank you for that link. I ploughed through a lot of stuff looking for something explicit like that.

One more question: prior to the upgrade, I am moving the site from a com.au to a .com. Or at least, my server people are. I am assuming that all I will need to do to get the site running on the .com version of the domain will be to change the appropriate lines in the config files, and run /install - upgrade database:

Is this a wise course of action?

Upgrade or move... if you do both at the same time, who knows what caused any problem that might surface. To move domains (and presumably servers as well), yes only need to modify the includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php files if all else has been managed as suggested (ie no hard coded links in the database or files). Once either the existing store is moved over and verified operational, then you will want to go through the upgrade process. Mind you, depending on the spectrum of the move by "your people" you may want to do a zc_install to a new directory/location on that server so that you can be sure you have the path names correct and as necessary at least representative database credentials.

If the site was already upgraded before the move, then there is no upgrade to be performed after the move. If the site is not yet upgraded after the move, verify operation first, then process the upgrade.

Excellent advice. Thanks again. Same server, so should be OK. But if I get a blank, I will check database credentials. Then weep.
