Can be subjective about the time spent, if there are errors introduced. The process is something like working from one end of a parallelogram to another, taking either path first. Fortunately it appears that it went well, though I'm a little concerned about whether everything on this new install has been changed that is supposed to be. So far, the actions taken to modify the configure.php files have been described twice and in neither case has the file path (DIR_FS_CATALOG or similar) been mentioned. First time was database, second was database and domain name... if the directory didn't also get changed, then when the other/old fileset is removed/inaccesible, will be back asking about what had happened...

Don't forget to set up new email accounts using the new domain name
and change the email accounts in zc to match the new domain

(assuming that you are using the domain name as part of the email accounts)

Yes. If it's on the same server things can be abbreviated significantly. However most people don't have that luxury, and should follow the steps I outlined very carefully, and not take shortcuts without understanding exactly why.

and exporting and importing a large DB can be done using the mysql command line as opposed to phpMyAdmin.... (assuming one has shell access...)

although no doubt, a little more difficult for those without experience....

glad you got it accomplished with a minimum of headaches!
