    SagePay

    Hi all

We have recently installed an SSL onto our website which was working great with the Sagepay module.

However now we also offer PayPal as a method of Payment and we have started to get problems. Basically the Payment goes through but the order isn't being processed and no notification emails are being sent out (we're not receiving a copy and the customer isn't receiving any confirmation).

I have tested the site and asked our hosting people for advice. They are saying that a lot of links which run through HTTP only (http://shaftdirect.com/ergonomic-office-seating-c-87/), and we should amend them all to HTTPS.

Is that right? Even the About us pages etc.

I have followed the instructions for PayPal setup very carefully and used https:// for each Url pointing back to our site.

    Please I welcome any help/advice.

    Kind regards

That problem is often seen when using Paypal Standard. Can you switch to Express?

    Hi Steve

I can ask, but wouldn't the problem remain if some of the elements of my pages are still forwarding to http:// instead of https://?

Deb, have you tried enabling the PayPal debug option so you'd have a trace of the cart <-> PayPal communications?

It's straightforward to make the entire site be https. In fact, in your Admin, you should already be doing this for optimal security of accessing/displaying Admin data.

    In your 2 configure.php files:

    - Your HTTPS_SERVER (and in Admin there's also HTTPS_CATALOG_SERVER) settings should already have an https:// URL in them.

1-For HTTP_SERVER, make it an https:// URL instead of http://
    2-same with HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER.

When all the URLs are using "https://" in them, then you can set the ENABLE_SSL (or ENABLE_SSL_ADMIN, ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG) values to 'false' because there's no need for the system to intelligently switch back and forth between http and https.

Use Paypal Express... For some time I had an aversion to it because I wanted customers to "sign up", rather than just buy quick and disappear... But people increasingly want ease and speed. So I installed PayPal Express and the result was almost instant... 50% fewer abandoned carts and the corresponding value in successful sales.

What is very interesting to see is the repeat visits I get - and these people STILL prefer the fast paypal checkout - even on their 6th or 7th visit. So... why try to hassle them into signing up? What are they "signing up" to? OK... I know the advantages of account histories etc, but for MOST of our customers, they don't bother about this stuff. I mean... how many receipts do you carefully store in files at home for every trip to the local supermarket?

PayPal Express is a better option.

You speak as if PayPal express doesn't offer a create a customer account option automatically... There is a setting to have it create an account when using PayPal Expresss option, in which case the customer is sent an email with an account password.

Thanks DrByte that was just the ticket. The only issue I do have is on a couple of the product pages, I have referred to a youtube video and for some reason the 3rd party links defaults to http: instead of https:.

So for example https://shaftdirect.com/sit-to-stand...orm-p-118.html and click on Gallery: The video doesn't appear to work and there are issues on SSL certificate because the video thumbnails are being reset to http:// (I declared them as https:)

Is there a workaround for this.

Thanks for your comments but I would rather focus on getting my SSL secure as PayPal are appearing to frown on our setup.

Yes... I am aware of this, and we have it set up to do so... The point is not so much about what the technology does, but how PEOPLE use the site.

Irrespective of whether they have "automatically" been signed up, most of our visitors will still chose "fast payment" on subsequent visits.
