Add a surcharge for people living on islands.

Hi,

In Italy couriers apply a surcharge when shipping to islands.

I'd like to set up a button during checkout to make people select if they live on islands or not. People selecting yes should have a surcharge.

I tried modifying the country list by splitting Italy in two parts, but PayPal does not allow the checkout so I need something that acts on directly on the order total without acting on the shipping modules...

Any suggestions?

You need Ceon Advanced Shipper!

With Advanced Shipper you can filter by postcodes and apply whatever charges or surcharges you like.

You can configure this by using zonetables shipping module. This is a mash-up of the ZONES and TABLE RATES shipping modules.

Here in the UK we have similar issues with outlying islands needing higher postal charges.

The ISO codes for Italy are (2-char) IT , and (3-char) ITA - so you keep these the same.

Add a new country called "Italy Islands" but you must ALSO apply the Italy ISO codes here.

For ITALY (main country), add the mainland zones (usually provinces, counties or other defined region)
For ITALY ISLANDS (second country), add all the islands zones (regions / counties).

The regions/zones should be those used by PayPal.

In your admin panel, select Locations/Taxes

Select Countries
Scroll to the bottom of the list. Click "New Country" button. Edit box opens on right of screen
First, you add a new "country". In your case, it could be something like "Italy Islands" (Translate to your language as needed).

As stated in my previous post, give this new country THE SAME ISO CODES as Italy:
2-character = IT
3-character = ITA

Then save these settings.

Then, under Locations/Taxes, select Zones
Scroll to bottom of screen.
Click "New Zone" button
Enter new zone name (probably by the name of the Island), or legal regional authhority (in the UK, these are counties. In the USA, these are the States).
From the Country Dropdown, Select "Italy Islands" ( or the name you applied earlier ).

SAVE.

Then, keep adding the zones until all are applied.

NOW... IT IS IMPORTANT to add all the OTHER ZONES to the main country "Italy". You do this in the same way by adding a new Zone each time...


In Italy, the Region ISO codes are:
(You will need to determine which are part of "Italy" and which are part of "Italy Islands".
