Category navigation previous - next

Is there a way to display a "previous" and "next" navigation link to the right of the category title display? So that a customer can hop from one to the next category with out going to go to the menu and look for the next one.

Say you are in top category1, next would get you to top category2 etc.

Could you use the categories-tabs menu (Configuration->Layout Settings->Categories Tabs Menu ON/OFF)?

No, not really what I am looking for. More like a jump to next or previous category button. Just like we have on the product detail page.

"Hard" part about this is identifying what is considered "next" or "previous"? Is it the next highest numbered category, is it the one on the same level but perhaps in a different parent category? Is it the child of the the current category, etc... It is having those in hand that would make it easier for someone to address. Certainly at some point after one is developed perhaps the other(s) could follow, but planning out the expectation(s) would get you a lot further. Another thing is what "utility" would be needed to maintain that up-to-date considering the possibility of adding/removing/moving categories?

OK, I see. I discovered the need for a site where there are a lot of top categories and no subcategories. Especially with the template that I use from Winchester Responsive from Picaflorazul. The templates navigation side box does not highlight in what category I am standing (I guess it could be modified via CSS). This is how I came to realize the need/use for the next, previous.

So in my case simply stepping through the top level categories would be great. But I see that this certainly would not be a solution for every site out there.
