Product Uploads

I have several hundred products to add. Right now I have all the information in a spreadsheet format. Is there a way of uploading that information in, without having to type every product? I do have attributes that vary from one set of items to another. My feeling is, after looking around in the mysql database, that there are several files that interact with each product. If someone has done this, and could give me a clue if it can be done, and what the relationship between the different files are, I'm sure I could modify my information to fit the criteria. Or maybe I'm making this all harder than it is, and there's some easy way to do this? Wishful thinking

There are programs based off of doing exactly this that are variations of Easy Populate. One such is Easy Populate Version 4. The program depends heavily on having a properly UTF8 formatted CSV file (Microsoft Excel does not export such a file) which can be generated using the free program of Open Office.
