Default Firefox using wrong template to build shopping cart page

Okay, this is a weird one. A old client contacted me reporting that hitting the add to cart button displayed an empty cart.
This is an old site 1.5.1 running on php5.4. Their hosting company claims that there have been no changes. This problem started a week or so ago according to the client.

    The website is cmtmedical.com

Most things work fine in Chrome. The only issue in chrome seems to be this scenario:
    - Add a product to the cart. Product added to the cart and shopping cart link above the green nav bar show cart quantity and dollar amount.
    - Click on the "how to videos" link on the horizontal nav. The shopping cart link above the green nav now shows 0 products.
    - Click on a different link and the shopping cart link returns to the quantity in the cart.

In Firefox and IE when you add a product to the cart it display a message that the shopping cart is empty. The shopping cart link above the green bar shows 0 items.
    - Click on a link to select a bottom level category and the shopping cart link shows that an item was in fact added to the cart.
    - Clicking on any higher level category changes the shopping cart link to 0.

Now comes the really weird part. The shopping cart page does not appear to be using any files from the language files, modules, or templates to generate the content in the shoppingCartDefault div. I've tried modifying the lannguage files to change the shopping cart empty message, created php errors in the modules and template files and it changes nothing in firefox. All changes do appear in chrome however.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to chase this?

very curious problem.... that is for sure....

in firefox, the cart is only getting displayed with https:

if you are in http, it does not display the cart.

some resources do not seem to get loaded unless you are in https.

that is where i would start.

    good luck!

Thanks, I hadn't noticed that. A fresh set of eyes really helps. I modified the config files to load all pages using https. Everything seems to be normal now. Tomorrow is another day to figure out what changed.

    KUDOS!!!!!

I haven't been able to dig into what the cause was. Switching the entire site to use https plugged the leaking dike and once I get a chance (up to my eyeballs in work right now) I'll try to understand why using https would trigger the symptoms.

I noticed a zenID is being attached to every page link.

To stop zenID in the URL from appearing all the time and only show the first time, change the following.

    Admin -> Configuration -> Sessions
    Force Cookie Use ------ False
    - change this to True

Might be off the mark but I had a similar problem which was eventually solved by clearing browser cache AND doing a ipconfig/dnsflush AND changing DNS addresses in my router - apparently DNS cache was the culprit.

    cheers, Mike
