Different layout for buy now vs add to cart button

Product listing with one product in the category gives a nice current stock value and an add to cart button (with default add value 1). When there is more items in the category the situation changes: no stock, no add to cart, just an numerical add-field and a button at the bottom (could be at the top etc.).
Would prefer the scenario one for more products.

How about then setting:

Admin->configuration->product listing
Setisplay Product Add to Cart Button (0=off; 1=on; 2=on with Qty Box per Product)
To 2
And
Display Multiple Products Qty Box Status and Set Button Location
To 0

Now each product (that doesn't have attributes) will have a quantity box pre-populated and an add-to-cart button.

Without anything additional done to the software, product with attributes will display a more info... style link to take the user to the product information page so that they may make selections of attributes.
