Default How do I release DNS - Move my hosting?

I'm trying to change the DNS and A record for my site - AWAY from Zen Cart.
I do not need any info on backing up the Zen Cart site. We will not need any of the old files or site.
There will be NO cart or selling of any kind on the new site.

    I've looked at https://www.zen-cart.com/content.php?142
And it's all about moving a website TO Zen Cart or backing up.
I just can't figure out how to have Zen Cart RELEASE my site.

When I try to point the a record to my hosting I get a message that the domain’s DNS isn’t managed here. It might be with your hosting provider.

I did not create the Zen Cart site. I don't know how to have Zen Cart release the hosting so I can host it elsewhere.

Thank you for any help with this,

    Jay

To remove ZC from your domain name, remove the ZC files from the location to which your domain name points. You may have to modify the .htaccess file that was added to the root of your store (if one was added) so that an index.html or other main page can be loaded. Basically removing index.php from the destination currently assigned to your site will prevent ZC from loading. ZC has no other "roots" to your domain name or other reference.

Zencart has nothing to do with your dns. If I read your post correctly what I think you're trying to do have your domain land on a new server which does not have zencart installed. Your domain (xxx.com) is registered with a registrar (enom, godaddy, somebody else). That registrar either provides dns services for you or your hosting company has provided dns servers to have your registrar forward to. If you have custom dns servers set you will get that message. What you need to do to have your domain land on a different server is change the name servers that are pointed to at your registrar to the ones for your new hosting. Your new hosting company should be able to help you do this. Once the name server change propagates you can do whatever you want with the old hosting.

"I just can't figure out how to have Zen Cart RELEASE my site." - Zen Cart is not into hostage taking... Your domain is not pointed at Zen Cart, your dns is pointed at your hosting... Zen Cart is free software that was downloaded and installed in your hosting... delete it, if you no longer need it, and load something new in there or point it someplace else (at your domain registrar as noted in previous post).
