help question Upgrade from PHP 5.2

    The site: italianglassconnection .com

The situation: I host a client who has an older Zen Cart installed on their domain that utilizes PHP 5.2. I'm attempting to transfer this domain to a new host. BUT they can't successfully transfer a site that uses PHP 5.2. (their minimum is 5.3). If, via cpanel, I select a more current version of PHP I either get a White Screen Of Death or the following error (depending on which version of PHP I select):
Deprecated: Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() is deprecated in /home/***/public_html/includes/application_top.php on line 18
My current host says that "If you want to update your version you need to find the compatible files to that version." but do not elaborate.

Any thoughts on how I can resolve this?

    Thank you.

The 'older Zencart' is the problem:

Upgrading to the latest Zencart version is your only real option.

Geez. what a load of work just to transfer a domain. No other option? Can I just upgrade files specific to the issue?

FYI: This is a showcase site only, no sale capability.

Although I really agree with Steve, there is the thread about making 1.3.8 php 5.3 compatible. This should only be used as a temporary measure to enable you to upgrade.

In situations such as these, I find staging the site's upgrade on a server which I control allows me to bypass all issues of incompatibility, without impacting the live site until it's time to apply the actual upgrade to the live data. Basically following these steps: https://www.zen-cart.com/entry.php?3 but the temporary site is NOT on the client's own server.
