Default Page Load Speed issues - Minify CSS, Compress Images, Render Blocking JavaScript, CSS

Hello - across 6 sites all v1.5.1 and all using the same template (Responsive All Business - Picaflor Azul) I am getting consistent results from a number of site page load tools including Google Page Speed so I am wondering if there are any fixes / add-ons that can solve the issues.

    Optimize images
Properly formatting and compressing images can save many bytes of data.
Optimize the following images to reduce their size by 586.9KiB (75% reduction). These images are primarily from the slide show and template images on the page (Cart, menu, pagination next/previous etc) - can these be handled by IH4 or is there something else to do it?

Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 5 blocking script resources and 11 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
    Remove render-blocking JavaScript:
    …l_business/jscript/jscript_flexslider.js
    https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/lib.../jquery.min.js
    ...business/jscript/css_browser_selector.js
    …_all_business/jscript/back_to_top.min.js
    …esponsive_all_business/jscript/script.js

Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:

    …ve_all_business/css/style_imagehover.css
    …sponsive_all_business/css/stylesheet.css
    …_business/css/stylesheet_back_to_top.css
    …ss/stylesheet_betterCategoriesEzInfo.css
    …_business/css/stylesheet_css_buttons.css
    …_business/css/stylesheet_footer_menu.css
    …_business/css/stylesheet_middleboxes.css
    …_business/css/stylesheet_module_tabs.css
    …e_all_business/css/stylesheet_slides.css
    …sponsive_all_business/css/index_home.css
    …sponsive_all_business/css/responsive.css

    any assistance will be appreciated
    cheers,
    Mike

Suggest you get rid of sliders. They're not effective and resource hungry.

Suggest you get rid of the social media share options on product pages. They are slow to load and I find few people ever use them. But maybe your market is different.

On your home page for Tree of Life Jewellery you have about three or four places with social media icons. Surely once is enough?

Always optimise all images you put on the site. IH should handle the other sizes.

    Best regards, Lloyd Borrett.

You should minify all those css files into one.
    JScript too.
Rendering Block.... there's a extension for chrome that tells you what code should be above fold.
It's a little tricky with css files...but if you know how to use grunt / sass etc... It's more easy.

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated. Exactly how do I 'minify' CSS and JScript - is there a program to do this or a particular method? I do not know how to 'minify'.

    cheers,

Many thanks for your reply Lloyd, much appreciated and I will take on board your comments. The images that are an issue are those that are included in the template - how exactly do I go about 'optimizing' these images?

    cheers,
    Mike

If you google 'minify css', or 'minify js', you'll get a ton of useful links

I'm using xnconvert to batch convert to optimize images.
So try to reduce the image quality. Maybe that will be enough.

Do you think that Image Handler will help?

Many thanks for your reply Design75 - Guess who did exactly that soon after posting - was early in the morning, hadn't yet had my second cup of coffee so brain still wasn't engaged
