Method to show only subcategories in mobile menu Responsive Classic Stock 1.55f

To show only the subcategories when you select the three bars - mobile menu that ships with Zen Cart 1.55f

includes/templates/responsive_classic/templates/tpl_modules_mobile_menu.php

Replace line 33
<li><span><?php echo BOX_HEADING_CATEGORIES; ?></span>

With this:
<!-- Remove first tier of mobile nav categories box <li><span><?php echo BOX_HEADING_CATEGORIES; ?></span> -->

Now the top category will be hidden and the subcategory will show.

Have search for hours and tried many tweaks to accomplish the 2 below functions but no joy!
Finally came across this post which looks close to what I need to do.
1:
Hide individual Top Categories when I select the three bars - mobile menu that ships with Zen Cart 1.55f and ZC v1.5.6.
2:
Display a Top Category but make it un-clickable in that same menu?

Initially posted in the responsive thread but no response.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

That kinda does the opposite of what I want to do.
1:
Hide individual Top Categories in the three bars - mobile menu that ships with Zen Cart 1.55f and ZC v1.5.6.
2:
Display a Top Category in that hambuger menu but make it un-clickable in that same menu?

I am hoping that someone has had success with hiding a particular category in the mobile menu and share what they did. Thanks.
