can't switch back to Responsive Classic

I had my site to a point where it was working but wanted to see it in the older Green template that I used several years back when I ran on Zen Cart.
Well, the Green template works but now I can't change back to the Classic.
I can select the Classic template in the admin section and update it, but the Storefront still shows Green, even if I load the page from a blank browser page.
I have directories called "classic", "responsive_classic" and "template_default".
Can someone please help me get back to being able to switch between the two templates?

Have you tried changing the template back to responsive_classic?

Yes I did.
It shows both choices when I go to the template selection and when I update the setting it shows the responsive as default.

Yep, your site is not set to responsive_classic. Still on classic.

Tools >> Template Selection

Edit

Select 'Responsive Classic Template' in the drop-down

Click on Update

NOTE: Once you're successful in switching back, you'll need to reset the Layout Boxes Controller.

I have done upto your note and confirmed that the correct template is set to default as I mentioned yet it still loads green.

Now as for your note, does that have an affect on it not wanting to switch back?

No, it does not. Any time the template is switched, the layout boxes controller needs to be looked at.

However, you are still not getting it to change templates.

The only other thing that might be causing this is if you have an online AND test site. I think all of us have gotten on the wrong track from time to time. Maybe you are changing one while looking at the other.

I’m confused what causes it to not want to change back.
