Pending order status sends processing autoresponse (instead of pending)

Under "Localization > order status" we have "Pendings" selected as the default. However, this generates a "processing" auto response. How can we change it to send a "pending" auto response?

When the store was first set up, original installer apparently customized it to generate a "pending" auto response but store has been reinstalled since then and now the default "pending" generates a "processing" auto response. (For our needs, we do not change the status to "processing" until the order has been printed out for office staff to deal with, so it's confusing to have a "pending" letter go out.)

Found the solution BUT have a followup question:
Under Modules > Payment, the paypal express was set to change the order to [2] processing. I have changed it back to [1] pending. Will this create any unintended negative consequences to the order process?

That depends on whether your store includes 'download' type products. The default settings enable a download to be presented to the customer so long as the order's status is in the range 2 (usually Processing) to 4.

Check your payment methods settings, they can override the order status with their own default.

Thanks lat9. We are in the process of adding some downloads so yes, sounds like this might be a problem. Can you think of any workarounds for the downloads? Many thanks.

Not knowing what your current 'orders-status' values and usage are, I can't offer a definitive solution.

The settings that control when a downloadable product is available for the customer to actually download are in Configuration->Attribute Settings.
