The directory "admin" is at the top level, at the same level as "editors" and "email".

This is what a typical Zen Cart directory structure looks like: https://github.com/zencart/zencart/tree/v155 (although some files here are for dev-only so you may not see all of them)
If you click on the "admin" directory, you'll see what it typically contains: https://github.com/zencart/zencart/tree/v155/admin

Assuming you are following instructions for installing a plugin,Where do i find the name of my 'YOUR_ADMIN' file so i know what to rename it
1) there is no admin file
2) your admin folder will have some random name. Only an uninstalled fileset has a folder called admin: this gets renamed to something random as part of the installation.
So the answer is "the name of the folder where the admin files are to be found" as per the second image of the previous post.

It is for a plug in, i have a file called 'admin' inside 'public_html' would this be it?
Thanks
Rename the folder in the plugin from "admin" to "the actual folder name of your admin folder", then upload.
So if your admin folder is called HWqcaWtUqcEH, then you would rename "admin" in the plugin to "HWqcaWtUqcEH" and then upload.

This is what I'm struggling with. I understand what you're saying but I'm unsure which is the admin folder in my ftp site. I have a folder inside my public html called admin, is this it?
I want to make sure im 100% certain before starting the plug in so its uploaded correctly.
Thanks
Your admin folder name has the same name as the folder you use to log in to your stores admin so if that is: https://YOUR_DOMAIN/abcdefg/
then your admin folder name is "abcdefg".

Answer: Maybe.
In a simple world where there are no evil hackers, yes it would be called "admin" and would sit inside "public_html".
In fact, that's how the original ZC files are distributed.
But once installed, we strongly encourage renaming "admin" to something obscure that hackers are unlikely to guess.
That's why there's no "ya, here's exactly what the name is: ##########" answer.
Thus the advice given in the above posts for how to identify the correct folder by its contents.
The post by Design75 above is a great reminder: it's the name of the directory you specify when logging into your Admin page.
And, yes, it's likely a subdirectory directly inside "public_html" (But, since there are many standards for how servers set up their hosting structure, we can't say "ya, it's always "public_html", because some servers use a different name such as "www" or "html" or "web" or "public" or sometimes something else. But, if you've got "public_html" then yes, that's almost certainly the right "parent level" from which to start investigating.)

Brilliant, thank you. I'll rename it now so it is more secure.
Thanks.
