UPS Overcharging

Our UPS shipping calculator is often charging far too much for shipments. I'm afraid that we are scaring customers off due to the high shipping charges. I have tried both the UPS module as well as the UPS XML without significant difference. We have the module set on COM for commercial customers.

As an example, the website today calc'd $180 for shipping, and ups.com calculated $130 - using the same weight, number of cartons and zip codes.

Any ideas?

What have you added in Configuration >> Shipping/Packaging. Items added there are often overlooked.

Thanks for both responses. Yes, I have carefully considered and accurately set all the shipping configurations. And yes, we have the pickup accurately set on RDP. Other ideas?

RDP charges more. I *think* they include the pickup fee. Try CC.

Thank you for the idea Chuck. I ran a test order and the shipping changed from $21 to $25 for UPS Ground when i changed from RDP to CC.

I wish the UPS XML plugin would work so that the mod would retrieve our company's negotiated rates. But until from wish comes true, its creating unpredictable and wildly incorrect shipping costs for heavier shipments (over 30# or so).

Its supposed to, but it does not seem to pull the negotiated rates for us. And i seem to remember some noise in the support thread about it not working. I just tried it again in recent days and it actually produces higher estimates. If there is a way for that to work, you would be solving this issue for us it the best way! I'll go back and revisit that plug-in and the support thread. Any secrets that you know of to get it working correctly?
