Default Spam through the create account form

As the title says I am getting tons of fake spam accounts created. What is happening is when the fake account is created, in the field for the first and last name are urls to adult sites. Also with each new account created, a welcome customer email goes out, which are being returned to me because they are also using fake email addresses. Now some may say to just delete the fake accounts and move on (I am deleting them) but I am getting anywhere from 45 to 60 and hour. YES EACH HOUR! This has been going on for nearly two weeks and is driving me crazy as my email box is full of this mess.

I read a few old threads that stated to remove the create_account code from the tpl_default_login page which I did, and the create login option is currently not shown on my website, but as someone stated in that thread - that those cleaver enough would bypass this and just go to http://yoursite/index.php?main_page=create_account, which apparently is what's happening because these fake accounts are still being created, even though no create account option is shown. The good thing is that instead of 60 an hour, I am getting maybe 5 an hour now, the bad thing is that it is still happening.

Is there anyway for me to put a stop to this?

    Using zencart v.1.5.4

Installed the google captcha and that's not stopping anything. Slowing them down., yes but the fake accounts are still trickling in. I even created a fake account myself just to see, and it went through just fine. Anyone have any other ideas?

    - what does that even mean? So you filled out the form and checked the captcha box and created an account.... What else would you like it to check? How are expecting it to know it is a fake account if it passes the captcha fine?

I assumed that when you suggested I install this that it would stop all the spamming, what did you think it would do?? What was your reason for suggesting this? If they are just going to tick the captcha box and keep spamming me, what was my need for installing this in the first place?

The captcha is for stopping the robots, as recaptcha's job is to try and determine the difference between humans and robots filling out the form, If they are humans doing the spamming then there is nothing off the top of my head that will solve that problem except for custom code to be written to do extra validation of the form to look for the regex of a url in any of the fields and if a url is found reject the submit.

I guess I am going to have to pass this issue on to someone more skilled than I am. Thank you for your help, at least now I know what I am up against.

not all spam accounts include url's - many are just a bunch of scrambled characters - getting heaps of them of late.
