I want Category-style image and text on my Specials Page

v1.5.6b with responsive_classic Template.

I am interested in having a Category-style Image and Text at the top of the page when a User selects Specials. In my existing website, I liked this idea so much that I created a Category called 'Specials' and put linked duplicate product listings in it, but this is a pretty awkward approach so looking for a better idea. Hoping there is something already out there I couldn't find when searching.

Sounds like you want to just modify the page that displays the product listed as special. That would be located in the file named tpl_specials_default.php to be located in includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates where YOUR_TEMPLATE is the folder for the template in use. If the file does not already exist there, then copy it from includes/templates/template_default/templates/tpl_specials_default.php to your template directory before editing.

Essentially you would be comparing this to tpl_index_product_list.php at least for the top of the page mostly. Similar code, but different html tags such as class and id labels.

Many thanks for your help! I was hoping for a solution like this, but did not find a page dedicated to the layout of Specials, so this has set me on my way. I am just creeping past novice level at PHP and stylesheets, and the advice on the forum from experts like you are precious as gold.

I forgot to mention/address the "text" part. You may want to create a new define_PAGE to contain the desired text and have it editable from the admin. When/if you do this, I believe the code still requires a file of the same name to exist in the not overridden folder(s) if you want to create a file for each template/language.

So if you add a file (perhaps call it define_specials.php) to: includes/languages/YOUR_LANGUAGE/html_includes, then if you want a template override version of that file the override will still load. At one point there seemed to be some discussion of changing the load process to not require a "base" version (even if empty) of the file, but I don't think that has been applied.
