That is not there by default. Someone has changed it from the example loaded with 1.5.6c

    Code:
    User-agent: *Disallow: /cgi-bin/

    # NOTE: This is only an example file.

    # If you don't already have a robots.txt file, you may RENAME this one to robots.txt

You've basically told the SEs that you don't want them to look at anything.

Disallow: /* --- Please Don't Go in There!
Allow: /* --- Come On In!

https://support.google.com/webmaster.../6062596?hl=en is a Google tutorial on how to make a workable robots.txt file.

Remember that this file is a suggestion to SEs. It does not control, deny, or direct. It simply says "Have a look here." and "Please don't look behind that door>"

To expound on what dbltoe said, don't use it to prevent accessing say your admin directory... the file is readable by anyone on the Internet, if say the admin directory were listed then it could be known by anyone/anything that reads the file.

Perhaps just for clarification... OP meant Google search or analytics? Second, robots.txt does not prevent indexing. It only prevents information in said index such as title & meta etc. So if OP's site is really not indexed, then robots.txt isn't the issue. If Op is really talking about analytics, then we need a link to the site =)
