Default Switched from ZC...to Open Cart...what a mistake

i had run Zen for about 10 years and had a "software guy" doing the updates and customization for us... His suggestion was to switch to Open Cart and this would provide a more robust engine for our software would not require core file updates like Zen does.

Well, I am 2 years in now and this is a real p.o.s.. Seems to be unstable and it is driving us crazy and the programmer just keeps on working to fix the bugs.

Our website requires special pricing methods and that is the main reason I was shopping for something different. We sell some items that are sold by size (H x W x D) and some others that have a fixed charge plus a per sq ft charge based on material being used to construct their custom products. There is a lot of this type of pricing on the site. I would love to come back to Zen but i need software that is friendly towards this type of pricing.

Any thoughts on whether or not Zen is flexible enough and easy enough to keep updated?

    Thanks,

    Keith

For the fixed price plus a per Sq ft charge, attributes can be used for this where the quantity of the product is sold by the square foot.

For the LxWxH can you better explain the pricing structure? If the pricing is based on total area then that too can be relatively easily identified, if there are factors like for every unit of length there is this price for a give WxH or some other such three dimension configuration, then it might be more complicated, but to resolve the issue need to be able to identify what variable(s) affect pricing and then how the price is affected. In order to accommodate that plan, product structure may need to be modified a little, but that would result from the original plan.

With Zen Cart being open source and so many new notifiers being added in to the base functions, the ability to integrate more with the software is continuing to improve and offer additional flexibility outside of the core code.

Can I sue him for defamation? Worst. Recommendation. Ever.

BTW dimensional pricing can be accomplished by a set of changes that I have done a number of times based on client needs.
You're welcome to search "dynamic pricing" on my site for examples.

This post seriously had me scratching my head... Software guy recommended Open Cart? No way, not our software guy, no... Was there a glitch in the matrix? Is there a reason I'm hearing the theme from Twilight Zone in my head? Phew, what a relief to see it explained.

I have complained publicly about the complete lack of software engineering practices on the OpenCart project.
