Shipping calculated from attributes

Is there a way to make shipping available for selection on the product information page by using attributes?

There would be three shipping options, each with different prices per product.

E.G

Free Shipping - 7 days
Standard Shipping - 2 Days
Premium Shipping - Next Day

Sure it's possible. There will still need to be a shipping module that will need to be able to parse the attribute(s) of each product in the cart charging the appropriate fee as well as handle cases where an attribute is not presented to identify the shipping and further what to do if upon login/shipping destination is made to be well outside the normal destination.

What is the perceived benefit of offering shipping options at the point of selecting the product compared to offering additional options at the point of determining shipping?
