    Default Re: Product Cateegory Linking - issues when using CEON URI Mapping ??

    Reading the post again you will note that I stated that when CEON is disabled that the standard dynamic ZC url system does show a category specific url for the product determined by what category the product is linked from - i.e. if the product is linked to 3 different categories the url will be different from each category.
    This is not accurate. While the URL may look differently in the address bar the canonical is the master URL.

    Hi Melanie, many thanks for your comment.

    I could very well be mistaken - the test I did was to disable CEON then open a product in a category and then open that same product from a linked category - the result was two different url's each resolving to the same product but in each category that it is listed in - each url can be reached independently;

    HTML Code:
    https://www.dazzlerscliponearrings.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=458
    and   https://www.dazzlerscliponearrings.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=458
    the latter is the master category.

    I obviously didn't do the comparison to CEON properly - CEON URI Mapping also does this with the cPath at the end of the url (something mc123456789 was trying to explain to me in his last post but it didn't resonate with me) - individual url's are present and can be reached independently.

    So I need to retract my statement that CEON doesn't do this - for being wrong I humbly apologize to all who may have read / will read that section of the thread and particularly to mc123456789

    thanks again,
    Mike

    Yes, you are in fact mistaken =) I didn't have a site running CEON to test, but it behaves the same. It's a good thing though, because the things needed to have the ability to rank them better are easy peasy. So

    Both urls
    Code:
    https://www.dazzlerscliponearrings.com.au/hoop-half-hoop-clip-ons/fabulous-clip-on-earrings-gold-with-rhinestones-embossing?cPath=12
    https://www.dazzlerscliponearrings.com.au/hoop-half-hoop-clip-ons/fabulous-clip-on-earrings-gold-with-rhinestones-embossing
    Have the exact same canonical
    Code:
    <link rel="canonical" href="https://www.dazzlerscliponearrings.com.au/hoop-half-hoop-clip-ons/fabulous-clip-on-earrings-gold-with-rhinestones-embossing" />
    Here is the Google explanation https://support.google.com/webmaster...r/139066?hl=en

    Now, if I might take a stab as to why your category pages you are reporting don't rank as well as you think they should.

    1. Content looks pretty thin
    2. They're kinda slow speed wise
    3. I would softly warn you about making keywords bold without any reason for them to be bold for the user
    4. Lastly and most importantly, the 2 pages you provided up ^ there their category pages are 73% duplicate to each other

    I would start here =) Don't expect any fast responses from Google, it takes time.

    Many thanks Melanie - I appreciate your input and advice - I value your SEO knowledge. I will sort out those things you pointed out and then sit back and wait patiently for Google to do its thing.

    cheers,
    Mike
