Default Redirect Add to Cart to a Product Announcements page - help please

    v1.5.5f php 7.1

QUESTION: how can I have 'add to cart' redirect to an EZ page with an announcement explaining website restrictions due to Covid-19?

    rationale -

    * Social Distancing rules may very soon prevent queuing in Post Offices to post orders so I need to prepare for the eventuality of not being able to ship orders

    * putting websites in 'down for maintenance' for what could potentially be a number of months would severely damage site search rankings

    * allowing the site to function normally except for not allowing transactions to proceed by redirecting add to cart clicks to a message as to why transactions are unable to proceed will hopefully maintain SERP rankings

any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    cheers, Mike

Why not just put the site in "showcase with prices"? Then use the "Date and hours for notice before maintenance" in the website maintenance section to put up the message and turn it on with NOTICE PUBLIC Before going Down for Maintenance: ON/OFF Then you don't need to redirect anywhere and the message will be at the top of the site on all pages and customers can at least still poke around and search engines can still crawl

Hey Mike - thanks for that, a great idea - I wasn't aware of the "showcase with prices" function not having had a need for it in eight years to date - and yes mc12345678, too easy when you know how right?

    cheers,

That's exactly what I do when I'll be closed for vacation, etc. To change your message edit this file:
    TEXT_BEFORE_DOWN_FOR_MAINTENANCE public_html, includes, languages, YOUR_CUSTOM_TEMPLATE, english.php

1.5.7d (upgraded from 1.5.7b), clone a template (cloned Responsive Classic Template), Sitemap XML v4.0, Square WebPay, PayPal Express Checkout, PHP Version: 7.4.29 (Zend: 3.4.0)

    FYI - excerpt from Google Webmaster Central Blog;

    Recommended: limit site functionality

If your situation is temporary and you plan to reopen your online business, we recommend keeping your site online and limiting the functionality. For example, you might mark items as out of stock, or restrict the cart and checkout process. This is the recommended approach since it minimizes any negative effects on your site's presence in Search. People can still find your products, read reviews, or add wishlists so they can purchase at a later time.

It's also a good practice to:

    (1) Disable the cart functionality: Disabling the cart functionality is the simplest approach, and doesn't change anything for your site's visibility in Search.

    (2) Tell your customers what's going on: Display a banner or popup div with appropriate information for your users, so that they're aware of the business's status. Mention any known and unusual delays, shipping times, pick-up or delivery options, etc. upfront, so that users continue with the right expectations.

1 + 2 = redirect add to cart page to an EZ page with announcement
