red flag ZC website can't connect to database

    Hi,

I changed db user and password in cPanel and therefore I updated includes/config.php and admim/includes/config.php files in order to reflect these changes. But something still goes wrong because I can't open my web page because of a database connectivity problem.

Does anyone have an idea what is the issue here?

    Thank you!

yes. you (or cpanel) did something incorrectly.

there should be an option from cpanel for phpmyadmin or something similar. you should see if you can connect to the database using the phpmyadmin and your credentials. once you have verified that connection, you can then populate the configure files with the exact same credentials.

connecting to the db is almost always a user problem with the credentials. it could be that cpanel did not give enough rights to the new user for the ZC db. but it is not a ZC problem.

    good luck.

    1. I created db user and password that was added to a database.
    2. In the next step, I populated config files with information: db user, password, database name (database name remained the same so nothing was to change in this line).

Remember, too, that the storefront /includes/configure.php file gets marked as read-only when the site's accessed. Make sure that the changes you've made are actually present in that file.

Are you editing directly via your cPanel's File Manager or uploading those changes via FTP?

    @lat9

I edited config file through cPanel File Manager.
Storefront /includes/configure.php file is marked as read-only (444).

As lat9 was pointing out, you can edit all day long and, until the file is changed to at least 644, the edit will not complete.

In the file manager, go to the includes/configure.php and right-click on the file. Select Change Permissions and set them to 644.

Older versions of cpanel will not complete this action until you click reload. Newer cpanels do it without the reload. Just make sure the file is set to 644 before the edit and return it to 444 after the edit.

I did it - changed permission to 644, edited config file through File Manager and returned permission to 444, but I see again "There seems to be a problem connecting to our database".

IF you have properly edited the two configure.php files, then carlwhat's statement is the thing to check
connecting to the db is almost always a user problem with the credentials. it could be that cpanel did not give enough rights to the new user for the ZC db. but it is not a ZC problem.

I'll check again but I'm sure that the db user has full permissions, and the credentials were carefully copied to the config files.
    Thanks for your time.
