Adding product links - how?

I have setting up a set to sell printer cartridges.

Upon a suggestion from El Slozzo, usign product links to allow a cartidge to appear in multpl categories at once will solve my issue.

But, how does one set up a product link?

I looked over the product entry page, and I see no referencve to being ableto add a 2nd, 3rd, etc... category.

How can this be done?

Enter a category in Admin, when you copy an existing product to another category you are asked whether you want to create a duplicate or a linked product - that's where you do it.

Thanks for the clarifications. I did nto catch the part of copying/choose link or duplicate part.

When I look at the product in the new category, I noticed that the product master category seems to be set to the origanal category. Is this what shows me that it is a link?

Otherwise, how can I tell that it is a link, an dnot the original?

I don't think you can link existing products. As far as I know, the only way to create a linked product is by copying an existing product (the 'c' icon) and selecting 'link this product' in the Copy Method.

Generally speaking yes, a product that is shown in a category that is not the master_categories_id is a linked product. There are ways to mess up the data and cause a product to have a master_categories_id but the product not appear in that category.

You'll also note that when looking at the product information page for the product in the linked category, that the canonical link is the same for both, but the web address will be different by only the cPath portion.
