    Default Germany/Austria address formatting

I've noticed that while Zen Cart's base provides 'zones' for both Germany and Austria, the address_format_id (5) associated with those countries doesn't display that 'state/province' information.

    Is that intentional?

I thought that perhaps just knowing that the version was 1.5.6 related would be enough to track down the issue attempted to be described; however, I'm finding that without digging into one aspect or another that the problem does not seem to be well defined.

At what point in store operation does a problem with the address_format_id present itself? What is the discrepancy of the address_format_id and what is seen?

Well, if you look in the address_format table in the database, you'll see that address_format_id [5] is associated with an address format of
    Code:
    $firstname $lastname$cr$streets$cr$postcode $city$cr$country
See that there's no $state element of the to-be-formatted address, even though those countries have zones (aka states)? Why provide dropdown states for countries if they're not to be used in a formatted address?

This could simply be a bug. Did you try setting the address_format_id in the countries table for these two countries to 2?
There are a few countries in addition to Germany and Austria that also use format 5- do they have states? If so we could simply add state to format 5.

We do not use states in the Netherlands, not does Belgium, or Sweden. Format 5 works fine for us.

I did not, since I'm unclear as to how Germany and Austria format their addresses.

I don't; I was hoping that @webchills would chime in (since he's in Austria).

The US consolate in Dusseldorf doesn't mention a state.

Germany does have states (it's a federal republic, after all), but it seems like you do *not* use them in a postal address.

I think the current configuration is correct.

I did a quick search. The USPS website had a link to the Universal Postal Union website. I went to the "Quick Access Pages" drop-down on the right side and selected "Postal addressing systems in member countries".

On the "Postal addressing systems in member countries" page, select the country of interest and click "Display".
