Default Moving customers to a new site

I'm building a new Zen-Cart website that, for the immediately future, will exist side by side my existing site.

However, I want to get all my old customers to start using it and be able to log in with their existing usernames and use the forget password feature.

Is it a good idea to move just certain parts of the old MYSQL databases?

I'd prefer the rest of the site to be fresh and new, but just have existing customers be able to log in.

    Thanks.

It is best to take all of the database data, otherwise may miss a part here or there. It's a lot like upgrading by rebuilding. For the most part the look of the store is guided by hardcoded files which can be different between stores but have the same database and therefore look and act differently.

if you want to start anew, start anew....

i think you can just import the customers table into the new database. not sure what version you are coming from so you want to ensure all of the fields are there.

i have not tried it. if you run into errors, you might need to import the customers_info table as well. but i would think that ZC accounts for that.... i could be wrong....

bringing the configuration table when you want to start anew with just your customers does not seem to be a solution for your situation. just my opinion.

    good luck.

    I imported three tables

    Address Book
    Customers
    Customer Info

It appears to have been a success. I was able to log in and do a successful forgot password request.

Correct. Those 3 tables are required for all customer and address data. Their encrypted passwords will work as they did before on the new site.

Those tables are also dependent on the following tables:
    - countries
    - zones
    - address_format
... so if you've customized anything in those then either bring those tables over too or adjust all the number references to match whatever you've changed (eg: compare those tables to the ones in your brand new store and adjust accordingly).

By skipping the following tables you are orphaning them from the data contained therein:
    - coupon_email_track
    - coupon_gv_queue
    - coupon_redeem_track
    - customers_basket
    - customers_basket_attributes
    - and any other tables you've added via plugins that do any tracking specific to customer activity such as wishlists/favorites/rewardpoints/etc

I recommend most people just clone the entire database and work from there, not doing individual tables piecemeal-like. But if you're comfortable sorting out anomalies then the above info will assist you in doing the piecemeal approach.
