Default Slow performance when sending emails

Is there anything I can do to speed up the email sending process? There is a very long delay (sometimes up to 30 seconds or more) when multiple emails are sent after checkout. A similar but not quite as bad delay occurs after an account is created. These delays upset customers.

I've reduced the number of emails sent to store personnel as much as I can. Operation of the store otherwise is quick, so page parsing times does not seem to be the problem. During development I've used debug emails, and the delay is obvious at the point these debug emails are sent.

    I'm using smtpauth.

Can emails be queued and sent after logout?

Sounds like the bottleneck is the email server, and not Zen Cart. Probably best to fix that.

Zen Cart v1.xx doesn't have a queuing service for emails at this time.

But it's rare to see emails cause 30sec delays. It would seem that whoever your email provider is needs to do some tuning.
