Default change logo and update database

1st the logo issue: I am doing a clean install of v1.5.7 while running 1.5.4 live. I can't seem to remember how to change the stock zencart logo with my own. I open up the logo image in a new window so I could see the url path and uploaded the new logo to that same location using ftp and cleared my cache but the zencart logo still displays.

2nd the database issue. Once I get the new site to my liking I will save a fresh backup of my db from 1.5.4 then import that db info into the new db. At least that was my thought process. But now I read that during the install process the installer can upgrade the db for you. That sounds great but I am past that point. Do I need to go back and start over or can I move forward another way?

    Question 1:
    Does this help?
    https://docs.zen-cart.com/user/new_u...e_header_logo/

If not, please post a link to your site.

    Question 2:
Yes, you should use the installer and do an "Upgrade" - this will update the format of your 1.5.4 database to be 1.5.7.

    Small addition to number 2.

After bringing over the old database and doing the upgrade, any mods you've added (ike SWGUY's preview e-mail) will need to have their MySQL install files run to get them into the upgraded database.

Good point. When I'm doing an upgrade, I make a list of all SQL files I applied to the test database so when it comes time to go live, I can just apply whatever is in the list.

Why can't I get my logo to display by simply overwriting the logo.gif file instead of editing the header.php files?

I am using the classic responsive template and there is no header.php file to edit in includes/languages/english/responsive_classic/

Copy it from the directory above YOURTEMPLATE, thus making your own override from the original at /includes/languages/english/ as /includes/languages/english/YOURTEMPLATE/header.php

It's worth spending some time looking through the help. This very question is answered in detail:

Okay I followed your instructions and copied the header.php file and changed it from logo.gif to logo.jpg, saved & ftped, uploaded my logo as logo.jpg. The ZC logo still persists. So I did a search for logo.gif in the admin developers tool kit and the only reference to logo.gif was in includes/templates/template_default/images so I deleted the logo.gif file there. I had already deleted logo.gif from the images folders in both classic and responsive_classic images folders so the logo.gif file should be gone. But it still shows up. And the header.php file in my includes/languages/english/responsive_classic is referencing logo.jpg and not logo.gif. So why am I still seeing the zc logo? I am stumped.
