    Default No Longer Getting Orders, Duplicate Charges

    Hi,

    I am been using Zen Cart v. 1.5.1 for several years now with no issues but over the past few months I have 2 large issues, that sometimes occur separately and sometimes together.

    This issue arose out of nowhere and no changes were made to the site, GoDaddy is the host.

    First issue is we are using Transaction Express (TransFirst) and we keep having issues with customers getting charged 2-3 times for the same order. Odd part is if you go and look in the database, only one transaction ID is being recorded and passed to the Transaction Express but 2-3 show up in their portal and the customer is charged multiple times.
    Additionally, I have noticed most of these customers have a large "address book" on their Zen Cart account.

    Second issue and sometimes in tandem with the first is that an order will not record in the store and no email is sent as a result but the payment completes and goes to Transaction Express.
    This issue seems to happen mostly when someone is using Chrome to place an order.

    We are really at a loss on how to fix this other than moving to another platform, any ideas?

    Does the Transaction Express module redirect the customer to another website to make the payment?
    If so, then Chrome 84 might be the culprit, as it has introduced an aggressive "default" for handling offsite cookie information which is probably preventing the customer's normal return to your store to resume where they left off.
    Thus the customer probably thinks the payment didn't complete because the store hasn't received confirmation of payment yet and therefore never updates the display and never even stores the completed order (because it hasn't been told of the completed payment).
    Thus the customer may be trying to re-pay (either by going back to the offsite payment page and paying again, or by doing various attempts to refresh/reload the store's pages), resulting in duplicates.

    It's also possible that your Transaction Express module may need some modernizing.


    You said you're using Zen Cart v1.5.1. That was published in 2012. It's very hard to offer support specific to your old version, particularly when a dozen new versions/updates have been released in the 8 years that have passed since then.


    There's a patch available to help mitigate those Chrome issues, but it's only been tested on modern PHP and Zen Cart versions.
