Default Site redirection query using cPanel 'wildcard' redirect

    v1.5.5f

I want to redirect site treeoflifejewellery.com to treeoflifejewellery.com.au using the 'wildcard' redirect option in cPanel which 'redirects all files within a directory to the same filename in the redirected directory'. The sites are clones of each other but with some variations in category names - e.g. /tree-of-life-pendants-c-1 vs /tree-of-life-pendant-collection

Question: before effecting the redirect do I need to make sure the category names on both sites are exactly the same ... including the -c-digit suffix??

    cheers,
    Mike

Reason (if interested) -both sites are currently operating and have been for years but the dotcom site is not sustainable from Australia for the reason of very strict ongoing airline restrictions into and out of Australia which are predicted to continue for at least another year. This has affected international mail which has resulted in the cheapest form of mail from Australia to the U.S. being around USD18.50 (restricted space so cheaper mail levels are eliminated). The products being sold average about USD30 hence shipping equates to 60% on top of the average selling price of product, in some cases more than double the cost of the selling price.
Redirecting may give the .com.au site some extra authority and link juice - if not then, I'll maybe sell the .com

I believe that this or something very nearly like it has been explained to you before...

    But, lets have another round.

The specifics of what the destination address are is not nearly as important as how the destination site handles what is presented...

First of all, if they are truly clones of each other, understand that basically you are your own competition. Second, if you use the url portion of your "old" site on your "new" site, what happens? If it works, then you've got a plan. If it goes to "nothing" then back to the drawing board...

Worst is/will be if product 55 is a widget on one site but is a weewidget on the other.. basically, not the same... if they aren't the same, then also would say that the sites are not clones of each other... of course there is already at least one difference the url rewriter is different between the two, so not completely a clone of each other...

Again, the option being chosen to use is not a magic bullet. It basically will ignore the domain name that was provided and use the domain name of the destination... so whatever was used to access specific areas of the "old" site should be accessible and "reasonable" on the "new" site...

There are multiple ways to make it happen in one direction or the other, but you really need to settle on something... I've lost track of how many times something like that has been said.
