Discount Pricing based on Category with splash page

Years ago under a different version I had a custom mod that allowed for me to designate a customer the Group Pricing Status of Dealer & then designate a specific page to display after login. Example: I want to designate a customer to be a dealer, then have that dealer receive a discount based on the category he's purchasing from, could be a % discount or a flat discount. When the designated dealer logs into the site, I want the page that displays to be an EZ page that I have designated for dealers.

Thoughts?

I can use the Group Discounts... however, not every product has the same markup and to give a flat % discount is to unevenly reduce the margins of certain products.

Any workarounds?

As fate would have it, I am just finishing off a mod to allow trade customers to use the shop.

a) Apply a simple/multiple discount structure (%s or absolute amounts) per manufacturer.
b) Override this structure per product if required.
c) Customers are assigned a discount level 1-2-3... as per the discount structure.
d) Show product prices as RRP and trade discount in product, cart and email.

This is for me and my shop as it's too difficult to allow all the ZC in-built discounts too. It just bypasses them all and works on the base/attribute pricing.
All using observers apart from template display changes.
