There is assistance with diagnosing this issue provided in the docs section.
There are multiple pieces to be determined:
Did the email actually get generated? (text saying so may be misleading)
Was the email sent to an address that could be used to retrieve the email?
Were the proper credentials used to support sending the email?
Do other emails come through and it is just not the contact_us emails?
Has a captcha been installed or attempted and it is not fully/correctly installed?
Was a captcha at one time installed but it has been "removed"?
There may be more questions, but other places to look for issues or to help is to install the email archive manager (and log emails) and the logs folder to see if there are any debug logs associated with the issue.
