Table rate shipping issue

I replied on someone's thread so starting my own for visibility.

I have table rate set up for orders that are hazardous and have to be sent using an ADR carrier, the table rate is set as ...

Shipping Table
1:5.00,5:9.95,200:15

So I think this means if an order is up to 200kg in weight the carriage charge should be £15

But I have a customer online now with a shopping cart weighing 100.5Kg and the carriage charge is £60
I've noticed if I increase the cart qty the shipping rate keeps increasing by multiples of £15 instead of just charging £15

Does anyone know why this is happening?

What's the store's setting for Configuration :: Shipping/Packaging :: Enter the Maximum Package Weight you will ship?

I'm guessing that the package weight you've got set is lower than 250, so the shipping is being split into multiple boxes (and each box has its own cost).

ah, I think that is the issue, I had it set to 36kg as I thought that was the maximum weight per box our carrier would allow.

I changed it to 250kg and now it is only charging £15 for the original 100kg order.
