    Default Anyone else see an [AVSCODE] => I8

    Okay, I am seeing this more and more, and I cannot find any documentation online for it. Sometimes it only happens with certain customers.

    We get an email saying "ALERT: PayPal Direct Payment Error (10554 [])"

    And the error is:

    [AVSCODE] => I8
    [CVV2MATCH] => M

    It says it's due to our AVS Risk Control Settings, but I still don't know what the I8 error means, or how to explain that.

    Normally, if the AVS is "N" or Not Matching, that's easy for me to explain to the customer. "We're sorry, but you need to enter the correct billing address and then your transaction should be approved."

    But what's an I8 code mean?

    Here is an actual screenshot:

    From standard AVS Response Codes, the I is telling you
    No Match - Address Information not verified by International Issuer
    1.5.7 will allow you to look up the IP of the transacion. If any part tells PayPal the transaction is from a different country, then they will "get picky" about the information being a match before they accept the order.

    You can probably adjust that but, not something I would consider without thoroughly investigating just how much you would gain or lose by taking the chance.

    ADDED
    Apparently, this may only apply to Visa

    It's very strange. The problem is that this particular error isn't coming from any international IP. The ip in this instance was 97.92.203.174, which registers to the state of Missouri.

    And then four minutes later, using the exact same credit card, the customer was able to submit the order with a positive 'Y/Y' AVS and CVV response.

    So I wonder if that "I8" code is some hiccup with VISA and their ability to verify the AVS in that exact moment? So weird!
