Default how to set attributes and enable multi quantity for them

    1.5.7c
few plugins (don't think list is relevant to question, in case please let me know)

First time trying to use attributes, and read the docs, and made some local tests, what I am missing is how to have the ability to choose multiple quantity.

    e.g.

    Product > box
    Attribute > size
    Sizes > small, medium, large

Customer should be able to select i.e.
1 small box, add it, and that's no issue
    but what if s/he wants
    1 small
    3 medium
    2 large
for a total of 6 boxes

How would I set this up?

    Thank you

    Here's one way.

Create a Boxes product priced by attriburtes with no price and the Quantity box turned off.

Create option names of Small, Medium, and Large. Then set the values for Small to How Many?, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

Make the How Many? Flags to Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, No. That will force the customer to select an actual number.

In the Options Name Manager, scroll down to the bottom and copy Small to Medium then, Small to Large. That gets your name values the same for all three options.

Add the Options to your Boxes product (priced by attributes) with the price and weight for each selection.

The customer now has the option to buy as many of each size as you allow and must tell you exactly what they want.

I threw an example up at https://jeandret.com/index.php?main_...roducts_id=181

Follow it through to the cart and shipping estimator to see how weight and pricing are all covered if entered in the Attribute.

If you need unlimited quantities, the approach generally would be to make size the attribute and allow the regular quantity management to handle things.

But what if the OP wanted the customer to be able to order 1 red, 5 yellow, and 3 green in one click?

That's what I got from the OP.

Agreed - it just has the downside that you'd have to add each desired quantity level as an attribute. They'll need to pick the approach depending on what's important.

    Thank you.

Indeed dbltoe's is what I was wondering about.
Not my case, since I doubt the potential customer would order many, but a free text field to enter quantity would have been more appealing.

Then you need to write some code. You can't do this with a stock install.

    There is/was also this:

The built in process is for the customer to return to the product, make changes to the attributes desired and identify the next quantity for that combination.

An add-on process would be to use the product attributes grid plugin to provide multiple quantity boxes that supports up to two attributes being "crossed".

I'll admit that some of the display information may need clean up based on ones configuration and options to be displayed, but the core process of the plugin works and matches what has been described as wanted.
