Sidebox searches with an iPhone - word with apostrophe leads to no results

Hi guys,

I was searching my website this morning and noticed that searching for a particular product came up with no results when I know it's there. I used the sidebox search and one of my search words had an apostrophe (like: don't, can't, won't) which had no results. I then went to my iMac browser and did the same search and found my expected results. Is the iPhone using a curly apostrophe (I see a slanted apostrophe on my iPhone) that would cause this search results issue? Just typing the word DON'T comes up with no results on the iPhone. I use straight quotes on my Mac. I also tried double quotes around the phrase on my iPhone and it had no results. I never noticed this issue over many years.

This could be why...
But how can I have Zen Cart allow for this so my customers don't have to do anything to fix it on their end?

Sure enough, turning off smart punctuation on the iPhone keyboard settings changed the apostrophe to 'straight'. But I can't tell all my customers to change that on their devices :-(

this is a solvable problem. advanced search results starts with a notifier here:

one could easily build an auto-loading observer to do a search and replace for said string in the keyword request.

but this "problem" is solvable without any modification of core code. which is always ideal.... at least to me....
