Just use the net price. The gross price increases the price for tax in the zone you are in (which may or may not apply to you). For stores which are not in a jurisdiction where price display including tax is required (as it is in the UK, for example), your customers browsing the store will see the Net price.

    Thanks.

I tried it and entered a net price.

The gross price automatically filled in with the amount plus something extra.

    What happened?

I know that the drop down menu above asks for tax class. Well, they are taxable, so I need to make it taxable.

What I have the menu on taxable, it is added. When I change it to none, no amount is added. I presume that since the prodict is taxable in my country, this should be marked "taxable"?

    What is happening?

What is the added amount being based on? I am not in a shopping back as a client. I am only entering basic product information.

    Thanks

There's some javascript on the page that automatically updates the gross price when net price is updated. Gross price is calculated as

    net price * (1 + (tax percentage/100))

    Thanks.

I figured that it was a tax thing.

But, I am NOT logged in as a user.

Which tax rate is it using?

    Quebec?
    Ontario?
    Manitoba?
    Etc...???

In my mind, it seems to service no purpose, since taxes re determined by the buyers location, which is determined when the client checks out.

To what purpose does this internal tax calculation serve since the tax is determined by the buyers location?

You mentioned that the net is the only thing that shows up on the website, right?

    Thanks

Your may want to do some reading starting here. https://docs.zen-cart.com/user/admin_pages/locations/

When you set the correct information in Zen Cart, it will automatically decide if the customer's order needs to be taxed and figure it for you.

The zone your store is in. It is basically assuming a store pickup and taxing like it would be in that case.

The net price is what gets stored in the database for that product. It is the price with no taxes applied, so is the base for all and any tax calculations that may be subsequently added on.
So if your sales tax is 11% and your base/net product price is 100, the end user will see a price of 111.

But, maybe you like to have rounded prices for the user, like 110. In this case you can enter 110 in the gross box and the net equivalent gets autocalculated for entry into the database (99.0991), based on that tax rate.

Thanks. This makes sense. Thanks for pointing it out.
