Can you return back to a previous php version at least temporarily? The version of ZC identified does not support a php version of 7.x. Further, the upgrade process should be followed so as *not* to interact/interfere with your live site...

Most direct suggestion then would be to make backups of the software on the site. Make additional copies of the database backup that was made and throw together the site using the latest version. Place some information on the site so that customers understand why some of the previous things can't be accessed, but letting them know that they will be back soon, etc... then upgrade the database to work on the new site, make backups again. Create a development location and start figuring out what it takes to successfully update the live site in as short of a time as possible while still being productive and not affecting the live site.

There *may* be some core files that could be individually applied to make it operational; however, there is likely still to be a lot of hit or miss on one or more things working or not...

Thanks MC for your input. Sounds like that is exactly what I have to do. Good idea to put extra message on the board regarding problems.

Are you self-hosted? If not you are probably on a host that sholuld be left ASAP.

It's rediculous for you to have to go through this whole mess when any reputable host should be able to provide a folder with the needeed php and still have your store operating.

We do it all the time at myzencarthost.com and, I'm sure Mike (barco57) can do the same at geekhost.ca. Being self-managed, you would have to see if digital ocean provides the cpanel (or similar) tool to do the PHP juggle.

This should have taken minutes to fix/adapt. Of course, the main thing is that the change should NOT have been a surprise.

In fairness to them, PHP5 has been out of support for *years* now, and sites that still depend on old technology are vulnerable to attack.

Agreed. But... if they care and know their stuff..... We (myzencarthost.com) don't have it running per se but, certainly available for situations just such as this.

Above the root would be safe at LEAST for the time needed to upgrade.

A customer can and should be taken care of whenever possible.

    Just sayin'.
