Does built in spam prevention in v157 not work?

I'm using v1.5.7d and I'm getting a lot of spam emails through the contact us page.

Is there some setting that needs to be changed or does the built in spam prevention not work that well?

What is the status of the template's contact us related code? Are you fully using one of the built in templates, another template, or one modified?

There are multiple pieces that make up the spam prevention, from the includes/modules/pages/contact_us/header_php.php file and the associated template related pages in includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE. Then there are other accessible portions of the template that may "act" like the contact us page which may/may not include the code necessary to carry through the 1.5.7 related spam prevention code... So... More information is needed to be able to answer your question other than out-of-the-box there is nothing really necessary to prevent bots from submitting spam, though people can send spam all day long...
