Emailing a product as an attachment

Hi.

My website uses straight-forward clicks to download products but some users have asked for a link where they can enter an email address and have that product mailed as an attachment.

We don't have user registration or sign in.

I am looking for a simple method to click and open a pop-up window where the user enters their email address and parse the file name/location so that submit will email it to them.

This functionality is not built in. Options are:

a) Make the download a product and add it as a free download.

b) Make the download a link on an ez page and just allow them to download.

Hi I understand that it is not standard functionality but I don't use Zen-cart' functions to download products. Just a link which goes straight to the database to download. Looking for a link to enable add an email address and parse the download filename to it but it needs to be emailed and not downloaded

You should also be wary of offering this feature as described. Why? If I know an email address, any email address, I could arrange to have that "product" sent to anyone/everyone. Effectively you would be permitting your site to become a spam provider.

While your account information suggests that you are new to Zen Cart, at one time there was a feature that allowed providing product notifications by simply filling in someone's email address and information about that product would be sent. That feature was removed from the core code to mitigate spamming or similar issues.

Agreed. If I was building this for a client, I'd likely suggest using wufoo.com or some other third party email service because of the risk of abuse.
